Lateral Violence Prevention in the Workplace Training​

Overview
This transformative two-day training is designed to equip professionals with the tools, insights, and practical skills necessary to recognize, address, and prevent lateral violence in the workplace. Rooted in trauma-informed principles and cultural awareness, the program delves into the systemic, historical, and psychological origins of lateral violence—particularly in marginalized and Indigenous communities.

Participants will engage in interactive learning experiences that promote empathy, respect, and inclusion, while exploring strategies to cultivate a healthier, more supportive work culture.

What You Will Learn

Understanding Lateral Violence
Gain a deep understanding of what lateral violence is, where it stems from, and how it manifests in organizational settings. Special focus is placed on internalized oppression and its impact on team dynamics.

  • Recognizing the Signs and Impacts
    Learn to identify subtle and overt behaviors that contribute to toxic workplace environments. Understand the emotional, psychological, and professional toll lateral violence can take on individuals and teams.
  • Prevention Strategies
    Explore effective, evidence-based approaches to prevent lateral violence. Learn how leadership, clear communication, and values-based practices can set the tone for respectful engagement.
  • Interactive Exercises & Real-Life Scenarios
    Participate in group activities and case-based discussions to practice conflict resolution, nonviolent communication, and mediation skills.
  • Resource & Support Identification
    Discover both internal and external resources for managing and resolving workplace conflict. Develop pathways for accessing support and ensuring psychological safety for those affected.
  • Action Planning for Change
    Create personal and team action plans to reduce lateral violence and promote equity, compassion, and open communication in the workplace.
  • Lateral Kindness & Empathy Building
    Embrace the concept of "lateral kindness" as a proactive, healing alternative to harmful behaviors. Incorporate mindfulness and relational practices to foster mutual support and well-being.
